1. What TaxMate Is

TaxMate is a tax calculation tool that processes your financial data to produce tax estimates with statutory citations. TaxMate is not a registered tax agent under the Tax Administration Act 1994 (s 34B). We do not file tax returns, make payments to Inland Revenue, or act as your representative in any tax matter.

2. Not Tax Advice

All calculations, estimates, advisory flags, and outputs produced by TaxMate are for informational purposes only and do not constitute tax, legal, or financial advice. You should always have your tax return reviewed by a qualified tax professional (chartered accountant or registered tax agent) before filing with Inland Revenue.

3. Non-Custodial Model

TaxMate operates on a non-custodial basis. We do not store your financial data after processing. CSV files are processed in-memory during your session and are not written to disk or retained. We do not have access to your IRD account, bank accounts, or any other financial systems.

4. Accuracy and Limitations

While TaxMate draws from the Income Tax Act 2007, Tax Administration Act 1994, GST Act 1985, and IRD guidance, tax law is complex and subject to change. TaxMate may not cover every tax scenario, credit, or deduction. Specific limitations include: Working for Families full calculations require family-specific inputs; student loan repayments are estimated; international tax scenarios may not be fully covered.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law (including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where applicable), TaxMate and its operators shall not be liable for any loss, damage, or penalty arising from reliance on TaxMate calculations without independent professional verification.

6. Subscription and Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe. You may cancel at any time through the billing portal. Refunds are handled in accordance with New Zealand consumer protection law.

7. Intellectual Property

The TaxMate engine, including its corpus-driven architecture, statutory parameter system, and categorisation algorithms, is proprietary. Legislative text cited in outputs is Crown copyright and reproduced under the New Zealand Government Open Access and Licensing framework (NZGOAL).

8. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
